Andrew Sheridan Business Intelligence Project Manager, DialogTech

Mobile has become one of the hottest marketing channels of this century, and for good reason. Among the  biggest proponents of mobile marketing is Google, who has supported this surge through their various advertising platforms. In order to show how serious they are about mobile, Google has performed numerous research studies.. If you haven’t gotten serious about mobile yet, these 10 stats are likely to push you over the edge.

82% of smartphone users use a search engine when looking for a local business. Smartphones are a great resource for finding businesses around your area. And an incredibly high number of people are using this resource to locate stores.

Google search interest in “near me” has increased 34X since 2011 and nearly doubled since last year. The vast majority come from mobile—80% in Q4 2014. Mobile accounts for a huge portion of “near me” searches, and this number will continue to rise. Count on these types of searches to become even more common in the near future.

50% of consumers who conducted a local search on their smartphone visited a store within a day, and 34% who searched on computer/tablet did the same. In order to drive business to your local store, mobile advertising is crucial. With half of the people who conduct a local search visiting a store within a day, this is not something you can miss out on.

18% of local smartphone searches led to a purchase within a day compared to 7% of non-local searches. These smartphone searchers are not just more likely to visit your store, but they are also more likely to make a purchase.

93% of people who use a mobile device for research go on to make a purchase. Getting in front of your customers with great mobile reviews is crucial for businesses. With so many people doing research on mobile before buying, this presents a huge opportunity to persuade consumers to purchase your product.

In stores, 82% of smartphone users turn to their devices to help them make a product decision. Even while shopping in a physical store, online reviews are critical to your products being sold.

In the auto category, searches on mobile are growing 51% YoY. People are using their mobile devices for large purchases (like buying a car), and optimizing for this can be hugely beneficial for your business. Considered purchases usually require a more in-depth discovery phase, and the best way to do this from a mobile device is with a phone call. Make sure it’s easy for your customers to call you with Google call extensions.

66% of smartphone users turn to their phones to look up something they saw in a TV commercial. Mobile is crucial for omni-channel marketing efforts. Mobile devices often come into play as research tools for products just seen over other channels.

29% increase in mobile conversion rates in the past year. Mobile is also becoming more successful in converting customers. With conversion rates on the rise, this means more revenue coming into your business through mobile channels.

Mobile has urged 70% of companies to begin transforming their businesses and experiences. A large percentage of businesses are getting behind these mobile trends. If you are in the 30% not getting behind the mobile transformation, it is definitely time to start thinking about going mobile.

It’s no secret that the world has gone mobile. Google has shifted many of their resources to optimize for mobile, and has the data to back this up.
